American singer Mary J. Blige has talked about why she chose not to have children, saying what she witnessed growing up shaped that decision.
Speaking on a podcast with Michelle Obama, Blige said she watched family members struggle with the demands of raising kids.
They needed babysitters, had no time for themselves, and lost their freedom.
Seeing that sacrifice when she was young made her decide early on that motherhood wasn’t for her.
But as time passed, her mind shifted. Watching her relatives bond with their teenage kids and seeing how much their children mean to them made her reconsider.
She’s now admitted she sometimes wishes she’d had children when she was younger.
Her story shows how people’s views on parenthood often change as they get older and experience more of life.
