The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered an alleged baby factory in the Mowe area of the state, rescuing two pregnant women and four children while arresting six suspects linked to the operation.
The police said the facility was raided at about 8am on Monday, August 24, 2026, following intelligence gathered over alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, operatives stormed the premises on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, Mowe, during an intelligence-led operation.
The rescued women were identified as Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who was seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who was eight months pregnant.
Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also found at the facility and taken into police protection.
The six suspects arrested were Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.
Babaseyi said the investigation later led detectives to a hospital in the Mowe area, where another alleged victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, was receiving treatment after reportedly giving birth to a baby boy on August 20.
However, the newborn could not be found.
“The whereabouts of the newborn child could not be accounted for, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse in locating the infant,” the statement said.
The police said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Babaseyi said detectives would determine the extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities, intensify efforts to locate the missing baby and prosecute anyone found culpable.
Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s resolve to combat human trafficking, child trading and other violent crimes.
“The CP further urges residents to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police by providing timely and credible information, assuring them that the Command will sustain intelligence-led policing to ensure the safety and protection of all citizens,” Babaseyi added.
The latest operation comes months after operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, reportedly raided another alleged baby factory in Okuju, Ilado, Badagry.
During that operation, 18 pregnant women and 10 children were rescued, while two suspected operators, Joy Okeke and Raphael Agwu, were arrested.
The victims were reportedly lured to the facility through an offer advertised on Facebook.
