Katsina State Police have arrested a 22-year-old man who allegedly worked with two others to kidn@p his grandfather and collect 3 million naira ransom before releasing him.
Sani Dikko was arrested alongside Kabir Sani and Salisu Bello, all aged 22, during an operation by the police’s Violent Crime Response Unit in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area on September 12, 2026 at about 8:23pm.
During questioning, the suspects admitted to the crime.
Dikko confessed to plotting with the others to kidn@p his grandfather, Alhaji Lawal, about three weeks earlier.
The victim spent 16 days in captivity before being released after the family paid 3 million naira ransom.
All three suspects remain in custody as investigation continues to uncover any wider criminal network they may be part of.
Separately, police rescued two women who were abducted by armed b@ndits during an att@ck on Sha’iskawa Fulani Village in Kankia Local Government Area.
The victims, ages 45 and 27, were taken at about 12:45am on September 14 by about eight armed b@ndits.
The local police officer quickly sent officers to the scene after getting a distress call.
The police team engaged the attackers in a gunfight, forcing them to flee into the bush.
The superior firepower of the police allowed officers to rescue both women without harm.
The Commissioner of Police praised the officers for their bravery and professionalism and promised continued operations against kidn@pping and banditry in the state.
He also urged the public to provide timely information to help police act quickly against criminals.
