An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Aliyu Farouk, has called on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike to tone down his language and stop making statements that could create unnecessary political tension.
Farouk voiced his displeasure while reacting to Wike’s recent interview on an online news program, where the minister labeled some APC governors as “lazy” and “419ners.”
Although Wike serves in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet and is building a “Rainbow Coalition” in Rivers State to back Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, his harsh words have sparked significant pushback inside the ruling party.
Farouk described Wike’s remarks as completely unacceptable and out of line for someone serving in an APC-led administration.
He pointed out that instead of insulting party members, government figures should remain humble and engage Nigerians respectfully, especially at a time when the public faces difficult economic realities.
He added that Wike who currently manages affairs in the FCT and maintains political control in Rivers State should not isolate himself from the broader political structure.
Farouk emphasized that over 30 state governors, including opposition leaders from Abia, Osun, and Anambra, are actively working to assist the president, making Wike’s confrontational tone counterproductive.
This latest friction follows earlier warnings from the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who declared that APC governors will reject any political alliance that undermines the party or threatens President Tinubu’s prospects ahead of 2027.
