Actor Daniel Etim Effiong has defended his decision to perform kissing scenes in movies despite being a Christian, saying that what makes an action right or wrong depends on the condition and intention of the person doing it.
Speaking during a podcast interview, Effiong questioned why people don’t direct the same criticism at other professions.
He used the example of a gynaecologist who examines women’s bodies every day as part of their job.
Nobody questions the morality of that work because people understand the professional context and the good intentions behind it.
He referenced the Bible to explain his point, saying that a good person brings forth good things because their heart is good.
What matters is not what you see on the surface, but what’s actually in a person’s heart.
According to him, you could do more evil by simply looking at someone with bad intentions than by kissing someone with pure motives.
Effiong stressed that intent and the condition of your heart are what determine whether something is moral or not.
It’s not about what people see from the outside.
The same action can be evil or good depending on the state of mind of the person doing it.
So performing a kissing scene as part of a job, with no ill intention, is fundamentally different from the same action done for immoral reasons.
His argument was simple: judge the heart of the person, not just the action itself.
