The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) has intensified its registration and public sensitisation campaign, urging residents to enrol in its database to help government improve planning, resource allocation and delivery of public services.
The agency made the call during a registration exercise in Ikorodu on Thursday, as part of its wider sensitisation campaign across Lagos State’s five divisions.
Speaking at the event, the Obateru of Egbin Kingdom, Oba AbdulHakeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, urged residents, including indigenes and visitors, to register with LASRRA, saying accurate population data would help government better understand the needs of communities.
The monarch said reliable data would assist authorities in planning and providing essential facilities, particularly in education and healthcare.
Oba Oyebo disclosed that he had registered with LASRRA and encouraged members of his household to do the same.
He said accurate population figures could help draw government attention to some of Egbin’s developmental needs.
He also commended LASRRA for providing free Trade Test certification to 20 skilled workers in the community, noting that the qualification could improve their employment opportunities.
Speaking at the event, LASRRA General Manager, Mrs Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, said the agency was taking registration services closer to residents by deploying its personnel to communities, schools, vaccination centres, hospitals and local government stations.
She said Lagos’ rapidly growing population, driven by births, migration and expanding economic activities, made accurate residents’ data increasingly important for effective government planning and resource allocation.
According to her, LASRRA registration is open to all residents, including children, youths, workers, traders, artisans and business owners.
Adebiyi-Abiola said the LASRRA identification number could also facilitate access to government programmes and interventions, including Ilera Eko and the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF).
She disclosed that registration had recorded an increase following the Ministry of Education’s directive making LASRRA registration mandatory for students in public and private schools.
The agency, she added, is targeting the registration of all students in private schools across Lagos within one year.
LASRRA’s renewed drive is therefore aimed not only at issuing residents identification numbers but also at building a more reliable database that can support decisions on infrastructure, education, healthcare, employment and other public services across the state.
