Leeds United produced a commanding display to beat Newcastle United 4-1 in their Premier League encounter on Monday.
Leeds took control in the 32nd minute when Newcastle midfielder Lewis Miley turned the ball into his own net, handing the hosts the lead.
The advantage was doubled two minutes later as Jayden Bogle headed past Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek, putting Leeds 2-0 ahead before the interval.
Newcastle struggled to contain Leeds’ attacking pressure, with the hosts creating several opportunities before Dominic Calvert-Lewin added a third goal in first-half stoppage time. He finished calmly after being played through by Tarik Muharemovic.
Leeds continued their dominance after the restart, with Noah Okafor making it 4-0 in the 59th minute with a first-time strike that went in off the right post.
Newcastle eventually pulled one back through substitute Bazoumana Toure, whose effort from inside the box took a deflection before beating Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford in the 90th minute.
The visitors’ attempts to respond earlier in the second half repeatedly came to nothing, although Joe Willock struck the crossbar in the 72nd minute as Newcastle searched for a way back into the contest.
The result capped an emphatic performance by Leeds, who maintained their control for much of the match and ultimately secured a four-goal haul in front of 36,693 spectators.
The defeat, meanwhile, left Newcastle with little consolation beyond Toure’s late goal after a difficult evening in which they were unable to match Leeds’ attacking intensity.
