The Video Assistant Referee, VAR, Matt Donohue and Assistant VAR, Blake Antrobus, who worked during the Manchester derby, have been suspended for the next round of Premier League matches.
According to Sky Sports News, the decision was made by Chief Refereeing Officer Howard Webb and his management team.
Donohue and Antrobus will not officiate any Premier League match until after the upcoming international break.
The two officials were involved in the controversial decision to allow Erling Haaland’s winning goal during Manchester City’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The refereeing body, Pro Ref, has already admitted that an error was made in the build-up to the goal.
City midfielder Enzo Fernandez was in an offside position while attempting to play the ball before it reached Haaland, who scored the only goal of the match.
Pro Ref said on Sunday that it had contacted Manchester United to acknowledge the mistake.
The body said the VAR should have advised the referee to review the incident on the pitch before the goal was allowed to stand.
Despite the suspension of Donohue and Antrobus, the other officials who worked on the Manchester derby have been assigned matches in the next round of Premier League fixtures.
Referee Michael Oliver, assistant referees Stuart Burt and Tim Wood, as well as fourth official Paul Tierney, have all been given games.
The decision to suspend the VAR officials comes after strong criticism of the officiating in the Manchester derby, particularly over the decision that led to Haaland’s goal being awarded.
