Military troops have killed terrorists and foiled two attacks on military bases in Borno State during recent operations.
Troops detected terrorists advancing towards FOB Gajiram on September 17 and quickly set up defenses.
The Air Component provided close air support.
Faced with the coordinated response, the terrorists withdrew.
Later that night, Islamic State West Africa Province fighters attacked FOB Mairari but met strong resistance from troops backed by air support.
The attack was contained and casualties were inflicted on the terrorists.
Troops recovered four terrorist bodies, AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, RPG bombs and a camcorder.
Some soldiers were injured but evacuated to hospital for treatment.
The military commander reinforced the bases and continued operations in surrounding areas to prevent terrorists from regrouping.
In a separate development, two Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad terrorists, including a commander, surrendered to troops on September 16 in Bama Local Government Area.
They handed over three AK-47 rifles, five magazines, a motorcycle and ammunition.
They are in military custody undergoing investigation.
Theatre Commander Major General Ibikunle Ajose praised the troops, intelligence teams and aircrew for their vigilance and coordination.
He urged remaining terrorists in the bush to surrender and asked the public to provide information to security forces.
