Peter Obi has alleged that the former chairman of the electoral commission worked against him during the 2023 presidential election despite promising the world that his agency would conduct a fair poll.
Obi, now the NDC presidential candidate for the 2027 election, said Nigerians made a mistake in 2023 by trusting what INEC officials said.
The chairman at the time had traveled around the world assuring the international community that his team was ready to conduct a credible election, but Obi claims he was actually working in the opposite direction.
Obi said that this time around, Nigerians should not rely solely on promises from electoral officials.
Instead, they should ensure the electoral process works properly themselves by staying vigilant throughout the voting and counting process.
When asked if he had proof to back up his allegation against the former INEC chairman, Obi said yes but did not provide specific evidence.
He argued that everyone knows what happened, including the former chairman himself.
However, Obi said he did not want to meet with the former chairman to discuss the matter, saying he had moved past that chapter.
Obi also maintained that he won the 2023 presidential election despite finishing third in the official results announced by INEC.
When asked how he could claim victory given the large gap between his votes and those of the winner, Obi dismissed the importance of the margin, saying those who conducted the election know they did the wrong thing.
Obi and Atiku both challenged the 2023 election results in court but their cases were unsuccessful.
