Barcelona midfielder Rodri has apologized to Valencia after television cameras caught him appearing to say the team was very weak during a recent match.
The incident happened during Barcelona’s 5-0 win over Valencia.
Cameras showed Rodri talking on the bench with his teammates.
While there was no sound, lip-readers reported that he said Valencia was really weak and could not even get past the halfway line.
The comments upset Valencia fans and media, who accused him of being disrespectful to a team struggling at the bottom of the league.
Rodri explained that he reached out directly to Valencia’s captain to apologize to the entire squad.
He stated that his words were said in a private conversation and were taken out of context, adding that he was just expressing surprise during the game and never meant to make fun of anyone.
