Former Anambra State governor and 2027 presidential candidate Peter Obi has called for a full investigation into the k!lling of a Kano-based social media commentator.
Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu was k!lled at his home in Kano on Monday night.
According to police, unknown attackers forcibly entered his residence and att@cked him with sharp objects at around 11:30pm.
He was taken to hospital but died from his inj¥ries.
Police arrested two suspects in connection with the k!lling and said they are being interrogated.
Forensic investigators are looking into the circumstances and motive behind the att@ck.
Obi condemned the k!lling and said no disagreement, criticism or local dispute justifies t@king someone’s life.
He stressed that people who speak up and express their views should not be forced to live in fear.
He called on the Kano State Government and security agencies to conduct a thorough, transparent and fair investigation.
He also urged that everyone responsible for the k!lling be brought to justice, noting that freedom of expression is protected by Nigeria’s constitution.
Obi offered his condolences to Dan Shagamu’s family, friends, colleagues and followers.
Police said they would pursue the investigation to the end and would charge the suspects to court once their investigation is complete.
