Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu has explained what Nigerians and other West Africans need to join the United States Army.
Momodu, who recently enlisted in the US Army, said people interested in joining the American military must already be living in the United States and have a Green Card.
The actor gave the information while responding to messages from Nigerians and other people in West Africa who have been asking him how they can join the US Army.
He said there are two major requirements for anyone hoping to begin the enlistment process.
According to him, applicants must first be residents of the United States and must have a valid Green Card.
He added that eligible applicants can then proceed to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) examination, which is part of the military enlistment process.
Momodu said, “You have to be resident in U.S. You have to have a Green Card then you can qualify to sit for the ASVAB exam.”
The actor also warned Nigerians and other people outside the United States to be careful of scammers who claim they can help them join the US Army through special links or online platforms.
He said there is no link that people outside the US can simply click to enlist in the American military.
“Please do not fall for any scam anywhere, there is no link anywhere to click on to join the US Army when you are outside the U.S,” he said.
Momodu announced his enlistment into the US Army in June, describing it as the fulfilment of a personal dream.
He also said his decision was partly inspired by his late father, who served with the Nigeria Police Force.
The actor shared his experience on Instagram, where he spoke about the physical and emotional challenges he faced during military training.
According to him, the training tested his strength and determination and involved months of demanding exercises and periods of isolation.
His enlistment has since generated interest among Nigerians and other West Africans who want to know how they can pursue a similar path.
However, based on Momodu’s explanation, anyone outside the United States should first understand the immigration and residency requirements before considering the US military enlistment process.
