Taraba varsity disowns Facebook account impersonating VC

The Management of the Federal University Wukari (FUW), Taraba State, has warned members of the university community and the general public against a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Benjamin Ate Kefas.

The university, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said its attention had again been drawn to the activities of an imposter who created a Facebook account using the Vice-Chancellor’s name and a family photograph as the profile picture.

Management stressed that the Vice-Chancellor does not own or operate the said Facebook account, describing it as fraudulent and unauthorised.

The university urged members of the public to disregard any communication emanating from the account and exercise caution when dealing with individuals or social media platforms claiming to represent the Vice-Chancellor.

“The account is neither affiliated with nor endorsed or authorised by the Vice-Chancellor or the university,” the management said.

Management further cautioned members of the public against engaging with the operators of the account, sending money, disclosing personal, financial or confidential information, or entering into transactions with them.

It warned that such activities could expose unsuspecting members of the public to deception, impersonation and financial fraud.

The university also advised students, staff and members of the public to remain vigilant and verify any communication purportedly originating from the Vice-Chancellor through the appropriate official channels of the institution.
