Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has called APC governors “politically lazy” in response to their opposition to his Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike was reacting to comments from the APC governors, who are led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma.

The governors had said they would not support, participate in or endorse any political alliance that could harm President Bola Tinubu’s re-election chances or hurt APC candidates at any level.

Speaking on a television programme on Tuesday, Wike defended his decision to back Tinubu, saying it didn’t mean he was abandoning his own political party or that other parties shouldn’t put forward candidates.

He challenged the governors directly, saying that if they had their own local problems to fix, they should stop using the president as an excuse.

The former Rivers State governor added that these disagreements didn’t start with his support for Tinubu.

He recalled facing opposition even when he was Rivers governor and later when appointed FCT minister.

He said the governors were unhappy with his role in the FCT and his tenure as state governor.

Wike suggested he understood the political landscape better than those criticising him and implied his critics would see things differently if they had access to the information he’s privy to.
