Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Joash Amupitan, has identified the problem of election result collation as a major gap in the electoral process.
Speaking at a national stakeholders’ meeting convened to mark 100 days to the 2027 general election, Amupitan said the issue has remnained recurrent, judging from previous election.
According to him, the problem is not with voting or polling units.
“I always tell my commissioners that some people have worked hard to get INEC to where it is today, and we should work harder.
“They handed over INEC to us. We should work harder to hand over a better INEC to those that will come after us. So, one area I have identified as a major gap is the issue of collation of election results. The problem is actually not with the voting at the polling units.
“So that is why we have introduced a safeguard that will help us to solve every problem, reconcile every issue at the polling unit, so that collation will be seamless. And that is being handled,” he said.
