Police authorities in the capital have arrested 40 suspects in various operations targeting traffic robbery, armed robbery, kidnapping and traffic offences across the territory.

The police commissioner announced the arrests Wednesday during a briefing at headquarters.

He said the force reviewed crime patterns in the capital to tackle issues like stolen vehicles and armed robbery more effectively.

Ten of the suspects were caught for traffic robbery.

They allegedly disguised themselves as street vendors at busy roads and traffic stops to rob motorists.

Twenty others were arrested for traffic violations, particularly driving the wrong way on roads.

All those charged with traffic crimes were taken to court immediately.

Two suspects were arrested in connection with armed robbery incidents in Nyanya and Kubwa.

One suspect was traced to a hotel in another area where he and another man, allegedly a receiver of stolen goods, were captured.

Two more suspects were arrested over the kidnapping of three residents from Nyanya.

The victims were taken to another state and held hostage before police tracked down the kidnappers.

All three victims were rescued safely and returned to their families.

Six other suspects were caught on July 28 for breaking into homes at night, stealing valuables and stabbing residents.

The commissioner promised the force would keep pursuing criminals across the territory.

He said police will find their hideouts, break up their networks, recover stolen items and bring offenders to justice.

He’s urging residents to share information with police about suspicious people and activities in their communities.
