Nigerians wanting to go to Canada to visit, study, work, or see family are now facing longer wait times to have their applications processed.
Canada’s immigration authorities updated their processing time estimates on August 19, and the new figures show increases across the board.
The wait for a visitor visa has gone up to 76 days, which is eight days longer than before.
Study permits now take nine weeks to process, up from seven weeks previously.
Work permits also take nine weeks, a jump of two weeks.
For people applying for a Super Visa which is designed for parents and grandparents visiting family in Canada the wait is now 53 days, ten days more than the previous estimate.
These processing times are just estimates and can change based on how many applications come in and how many staff are available to review them.
The immigration office regularly updates these figures as conditions change, so applicants should check for the latest information before submitting their applications.
For Nigerians planning to travel to Canada for any reason, these longer wait times mean they should start their application process earlier than they might have done before, as they may need to allow several additional weeks before receiving a decision.
