Police in Adamawa State have arrested a man for allegedly using social media to insult and threaten a traditional ruler.

Buriba Israel, 31, from Jambutu, was taken into custody following complaints that he had posted offensive content online against a First-Class Chief.

According to police, the suspect made and spread social media posts containing accusations against the traditional leader.

The posts were considered insulting and damaging to the chief’s reputation and standing in the community.

After receiving a formal complaint, police launched an investigation into the suspect’s online activities.

Officers recovered electronic devices and other materials linked to the alleged offences, which are being examined further as the investigation continues.

Police said they understand that people have the right to speak freely, but that this right must be used responsibly and within the law.

The command stated that using social media to harass, threaten, intimidate, or spread harmful content about people or institutions will not be allowed.

Police pledged to protect the dignity of traditional institutions, keep public order, and prevent the digital space from being used for criminal intimidation, cyberbullying, or other unlawful activities.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered that the case be thoroughly investigated and that the suspect face the full consequences of the law if found guilty.
