Nigeria’s Ella Onojuvwevwo delivered a superb performance to claim the bronze medal in the women’s 400 metres at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, clocking 51.00 seconds to secure her place on the podium and hand Team Nigeria another athletics medal.

The bronze medal continues an outstanding season for Onojuvwevwo, who has emerged as one of Africa’s leading quarter-milers. Earlier this year, she lowered the Nigerian record to 49.47 seconds and climbed into the world’s top ranks after an impressive collegiate campaign in the United States, where she also set the African indoor record.
Her podium finish came just hours after compatriot Samuel Ogazi captured gold in the men’s 400m, giving Nigeria two medals from the one-lap races and reinforcing the country’s growing reputation as a powerhouse in the event.
