SUSPECT: Benjamin Segun Bright ‘m’ 49 Years
The Osun State Police Command has launched investigation into a case involving allegations of fraudulent acts, obtaining money by false pretences (a.k.a 419), and stealing, following a petition duly submitted to the office of the Commissioner of Police.
The preliminary findings revealed that, the suspect, 49-year-old Benjamin Segun Bright, allegedly introduced an initiative programme (Farmer and Consumers Initiative) sometime in May 2026, claiming that he had been engaged by certain philanthropists to assist selected groups of farmers with grants of up to ₦3 million each.
The participants were required to pay a registration fee of five thousand (₦5,000) and introduce two additional persons into the programme, who were also required to pay same registration fee of ₦5,000 each. Participants were reportedly promised an initial payment of ₦50,000 after the first week, followed by subsequent payments of ₦100,000 and ₦200,000, until the total sum of ₦3 million was reached.
Based on these misrepresentations, approximately four thousand (4,000) persons were reportedly registered through the complainants and allegedly fulfilled the stated requirements. The complainants alleged that a total sum of ₦22,329,050 was paid to the suspect in connection with the programme, Police said in a press release on Monday, signed by PPRO Abiodun Ojelabi.
“However, concerns later arose regarding the legitimacy of the initiative, leading the complainants to report the matter to the Commissioner of Police through petition. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged scheme.
“In the course of the investigation, the suspect was also allegedly discovered to be involved in the production and distribution of various herbal and chemical products, including: Reumax Syrup, Kaye Bitters, Ginger, Extra-Time Detoxpro, Herbal Blood Tonic, Atura Herbal Balm, Herbal Tea and Exotic Fruit Flavor.
“Police detectives extend investigation whether the products were manufactured, registered, approved, and distributed in compliance with applicable government regulations. The matter has been appropriately referred to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for necessary attention.
“The case remains under active investigation. Upon the conclusion of investigations and subject to the outcome of relevant legal and regulatory processes, appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura psc(+), mnips is advising the members of the public to exercise caution and conduct proper verification before investing in, registering for, or participating in grant, empowerment, investment, or similar programmes that promise financial returns or benefits,” the release added.
