Chima Ogumba, a 49-year-old suspected armed robber, was taken into custody by the Anambra State Police Command in Nkpor, the state’s Idemili North Local Government Area, along with a pump-action gun and fifty live rounds.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesperson, revealed this in a statement released on Tuesday.
According to Ikenga, Ogumba was taken into custody early on August 17, 2026, during an operation in the region by members of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu.
He claimed that after searching the suspect, the agents found a pump-action gun and fifty live rounds. He also stated that Ogumba was unable to give a convincing reason for why he had the rifle and ammo.
The statement read, “The Anambra State Police Command operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu on the morning of August 17, 2026, arrested a 49-year-old armed robbery suspect, Chima Ogumba.
“The team also recovered one pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges from him in Nkpor Road, Idemili North Local Government Area of the State.
One pump-action gun and fifty live rounds were found when the agents searched the suspect after assaulting the designated area.
“The suspect was unable to provide a reasonable and satisfactory explanation for his possession of the firearm and ammunition.”
According to Ikenga, Nnanna Oji Ama, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State Command, had ordered that the suspect be properly examined in order to determine whether he was involved in armed robbery or other criminal activities.
The probe will also ascertain the origin and purpose of the recovered firearm and ammo, he continued.
The CP reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations, proactive policing, targeted patrols and sustained tactical interventions to identify, disrupt and dismantle criminal networks across the state.
