A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will win Kano State in the 2027 presidential election despite the influence of former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, made the declaration while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday.
The lawmaker, who has previously been associated with the Kwankwasiyya political movement, said he and other APC politicians in Kano understood the movement and its political structure.
“Who is more Kwankwasiyya than us? We understand the entire dynamics. If you want me to put a bet, I will put a bet with you, we will deliver Kano for the President (Tinubu), and the president will win in the 2027 election,” he said.
Jibrin said the perception about Tinubu’s support in Kano should not be confused with the actual position of voters, arguing that the election results would ultimately show their choice.
“Yes, there is always perception but I keep telling people that what will produce the real picture of what is on ground is the election results,” he said.
He also claimed that Tinubu’s popularity had increased in northern Nigeria.
“The president has never been liked so much as he is being liked in the Northern part of the country,” Jibrin said.
On APC’s preparations in Kano, Jibrin said party leaders were already working together ahead of the election.
He listed the governor, deputy governor, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Senator Bashir Hanga, Senator Kabiru Gaya, former governor Ibrahim Shekarau and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Abubakar Bichi among those involved in the party’s preparations.
“We are meeting daily, we understand the dynamics,” he said.
Jibrin’s comments come amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 election. Kwankwaso, a former Kano governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, is part of the opposition NDC ticket with Peter Obi.
Jibrin had also previously said Tinubu could defeat Kwankwaso in Kano, while acknowledging the former governor’s political influence in the state.
