Ballon d’Or 2026: Kane fires back at Yamal over favourite claim

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has responded to Lamine Yamal’s recent comments about the 2026 Ballon d’Or award.

Yamal, who plays for Barcelona, recently said that he and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe were the best players in the world last season.

The Spain international also said he believes he deserves to win the Ballon d’Or ahead of Mbappe and other contenders for the prestigious individual award.

Kane was asked about Yamal’s comments after Bayern Munich’s 7-0 victory over Union Berlin on Friday.

The England captain said every player has the right to express their opinion about who should win the award.

“I don’t know how Yamal meant it. Everyone has the right to express themselves however they want. Everyone is different,” Kane told Sky Sports.

The former Tottenham striker added that he would rather concentrate on his performances on the pitch and leave the decision to the voters.

“That is not up to me. I will keep doing my thing on the pitch, and then we will see what happens,” Kane said.

Kane is also among the players being discussed in connection with the 2026 Ballon d’Or after another strong season at Bayern Munich.

The award is expected to attract strong competition, with several leading players hoping to claim the prestigious prize.
