Kaduna State’s African Democratic Congress gubernatorial candidate Isa Mohammed Ashiru has called on KASU lecturers to return to teaching, warning that the prolonged strike is harming students.
He also urged the Kaduna government to move quickly on its obligations to the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The industrial action at Kaduna State University has dragged on, hitting students, families and the broader education system hard.
Ashiru expressed worry that the academic disruption will delay graduation, derail student plans and pile pressure on young people whose parents have sacrificed much to fund their education.
While lecturers have legitimate claims for better pay and working conditions, Ashiru said students should not become collateral damage in a dispute between workers and government.
He appealed to the lecturers as parents themselves to think about the future of their own children and resume work while talks continue.
He stressed that each day lost is another day stolen from the academic progress of thousands of young people.
