Osun State Government has ordered security agencies to step up investigations into recent k!llings linked to cult activity and a row over leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.
The state’s security adviser, Samuel Ojo, made the announcement Wednesday, assuring residents that the government would not shield anyone found responsible for the violence.
About five people have reportedly died in incidents connected to cult att@cks and the NURTW succession crisis.
The state called an emergency security meeting Wednesday to tackle the worsening situation and work toward restoring calm.
Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi chaired the gathering, which brought together police, DSS officials, military representatives and commanders from drug enforcement, immigration, corrections, civil defence and Amotekun agencies.
The security chiefs pledged to intensify efforts to prevent further deaths and return the state to the peace it previously enjoyed.
Ojo rejected claims that the Adeleke administration was protecting those accused in the k!lling of Olalekan Oyeyemi, a death reportedly stemming from the NURTW leadership dispute.
He said the government would not shield anyone and that police and DSS were conducting thorough investigations to identify the k!llers.
He stressed that the law would take its course against those found culpable and that security commanders were working to bring those responsible to justice.
