The presidential campaign organisation of Governor Seyi Makinde and his running mate, Lawal Daura, has announced plans to begin a nationwide series of town hall meetings ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise will open in Katsina on September 22, with the campaign organisation saying the meetings are intended to provide a platform for direct engagement with citizens, stakeholders and grassroots supporters.
Anthony Ehilebo, Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication to Makinde, disclosed this at a media briefing in Abuja on Sunday.
He said the programme would cover the six geopolitical zones, with the campaign seeking to use the sessions to listen to Nigerians and discuss issues affecting the country.
“As we continue with our consultation and mobilisation, it is imperative to, through you, inform Nigerians that we have commenced our scheduled town hall meetings for broad-based citizen and stakeholder engagement.
“It is slated to hold in the six geo-political zones across the country,” he said.
According to Ehilebo, Katsina will host the first meeting for the North-West on September 22, while Uyo will host the South-South session on September 25.
The North-Central meeting is scheduled for Lafia on September 28, followed by the South-East session in Enugu on September 30.
The organisation said the remaining zones would also be covered under the programme.
Ehilebo said the meetings would focus on national issues rather than personalities, with particular attention to national stability and the welfare of Nigerians.
He said the campaign’s central message was to “Reset Nigeria to a nation that truly works for all”, while promising a political administration in which public officials would be accessible and accountable and public resources managed transparently.
“Our campaign has become a grassroots movement, gaining an unprecedented upswing momentum and reputation as the fastest growing political movement ahead of the 2027 presidential election,” he said.
The campaign organisation also pointed to recent electoral developments as evidence of growing support for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
It specifically cited the party’s victory in the Sakwa State Constituency bye-election in Bauchi State held on September 19. Reports on the results show that APM secured one of the two Bauchi Assembly seats contested in the bye-election.
“This solidarity and support by Nigerians have been manifest in recent off-cycle elections and by-elections, the latest being the victory of the APM in the Bauchi State House of Assembly by-election at the weekend,” Ehilebo added.
The Makinde-Daura campaign organisation urged Nigerians to attend the town hall meetings and participate in discussions on issues affecting their communities and the country.
“Our campaign uses this opportunity to invite Nigerians to Makinde-Daura presidential campaign town hall meetings, while also thanking all citizens for their solidarity as we work hard to ensure the victory of APM and Engr. Makinde in the 2027 presidential election,” he said.
