Manchester United’s difficult start to the Premier League season continued on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham at Craven Cottage.
United looked set to suffer another defeat after Fulham took the lead in the second half. The home side went ahead in the 63rd minute when Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez turned the ball into his own net.
The goal gave Fulham confidence as they looked to protect their advantage and secure only their second win of the season.
Manchester United struggled to find a way back into the game for much of the second half. Fulham defended well and appeared to be on course for a valuable home victory as the match entered its final stages.
However, United produced a late response when Matheus Cunha scored in the 89th minute to level the game.
Cunha’s late goal denied Fulham all three points and earned Manchester United a share of the points.
The draw means United have now gone three consecutive Premier League matches without a win. They lost 1-0 to Manchester City before suffering a 3-2 defeat away to Brighton in their previous two matches.
The latest result will add to the pressure on United as they continue to search for consistency in the new Premier League campaign.
Despite rescuing a point at Fulham, United remain 12th in the Premier League table with five points from their opening matches.
Fulham, meanwhile, remain second from bottom with two points. The London club will be disappointed after coming close to securing a major result against United.
Manchester United will now look to use the international break to regroup before returning to Premier League action.
