Senegal goalkeeper Édouard Mendy has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 34.
Mendy, who has been an important member of the Senegal national team for several years, made 60 appearances for his country during his international career.
One of the biggest highlights of his career with Senegal was helping the team win the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021. The triumph was Senegal’s first AFCON title and remains one of the most important achievements in the country’s football history.
Mendy played a key role in Senegal’s success and established himself as one of the leading goalkeepers in African football.
Senegal’s 2025 AFCON title is also currently the subject of an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awarded the title to Morocco.
Mendy’s retirement comes as he continues to receive recognition for his performances at club and international level. He has been nominated for the 2026 Yashin Trophy, an award given to the best goalkeeper in the world.
The former Senegal international will now focus on his club career after bringing an end to a memorable period with the national team.
