Former lawmakers under the South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) have commenced mobilisation for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s successor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.
The group said this in a statement issued by the Steering Committee of SWAGA signed by Mr Afis Kasumu and made available on Saturday in Lagos.
The group said it would officially inaugurate its zonal, Local Government and Local Council Development Area structures under its “Lagos SWAGA 2.0” initiative.
The initiative tagged “Consolidating Grassroots Mobilisation and Deepening Political Engagements for the Renewed Hope Agenda,” is scheduled to hold at the Eko FM Multi-Purpose Hall, LTV Compound, Ikeja on Sept. 17.
It said the initiative was designed to deepen grassroots mobilisation and political engagement across Lagos.
It said the movement would also support Hamzat, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, ahead of the 2027 election.
According to the group, SWAGA was among the earliest pressure groups to advocate Tinubu’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2023 election.
It said the new phase would consolidate its grassroots structures and strengthen engagement with communities across the state.
The statement said newly appointed zonal coordinators and local administrators, comprising former legislators at state and federal levels, would be sworn in at the event.
It added that the coordinators would drive advocacy, mobilise communities and serve as links between the movement’s leadership and electorate across Lagos’ 57 LGs and LCDAs.
The group said political leaders, party stalwarts, community influencers and grassroots mobilisers from across the South-West were expected at the event.
It said the Lagos SWAGA chairman, Mr Mosuru Owolabi, would chair the event, alongside other notable members, including Mrs Funmilayo Tejuoso.
Also expected at the event is Remi Adebowale, a former Special Adviser on Civil Engagement to the Lagos State Government.
