President Bola Tinubu has declared the fight to end child labour a top national priority for Nigeria.
Speaking in Abuja through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the President said forcing children into work hurts their education, health, and future, while slowing down the country’s overall growth.
To tackle the problem, the government launched a new national action plan running from 2026 to 2030 along with a survey report on child labour.
Tinubu promised to fight the root causes, like poverty and out-of-school children, through school feeding programs, better safety in schools, and financial support for struggling families so parents do not have to rely on their children for income.
He called on state governors, employers, and community leaders to join hands with the federal government to completely remove children from workplaces across the country.
