It was learnt that the names of some governorship candidates were missing from the list.

Among the omitted candidates were former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Gombe State, and Chief Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu, the PDP candidate in Ogun State.

Reacting to the development, Akintola described the situation as worrisome and unfortunate.

He described the omission as another attempt by INEC to silence opposition politicians.

Akintola said in the statement: “MURIC finds the omissions very disturbing, and that is to say the least. We suspect a well-coordinated manoeuvre to outwit opposition parties by all means possible.

“MURIC is of the humble opinion that INEC should allow the performance of the APC administration to persuade the electorate instead of adopting rough tackles against the opposition. This is not good enough in a heavily globalised world.”
