Atiku Dismisses Obasanjos Support As He Fires Back Ahead Of 2027

Presidential hopeful Atiku Abubakar says former President Obasanjo holds no political power and it doesn’t bother him that Obasanjo won’t back his candidacy.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Atiku pointed out that back in 1999, Obasanjo couldn’t even win his home state or the entire Southwest region.

It was the northern part of the country that got him elected President. So he has no real electoral strength, Atiku argued.

The two have been at odds since leaving office in 2007 after serving two eight-year terms as President and Vice President.

Atiku had previously explained that he opposed Obasanjo’s attempt to extend his time in power to protect the constitution and democracy, not out of personal grudge.

Looking at the 2027 race, Atiku says he gave many young Nigerians their start in government when he was Vice President.

Some of those people are now governors, ministers and hold other top positions.

If he wins the presidency, he plans to keep opening doors for young Nigerians to serve and lead the country.
