The Abia State Government has taken custody of a 12-year-old child, Master Ugonna Uzoma, following his rescue from his father, Mr. Lambert Uzoma.
The minor was rescued from his father, Lambert Uzoma, who allegedly tied his hands and legs before inflicting severe injuries on him.
The father, who is now in police net, was also alleged to have poured frozen water on his son, before abandoning him in the sun .
Confirming the rescue on Friday, the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs expressed dismay about the abuse of the young boy by his own father.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Maureen Ahukwa, said that the abused child would be taken to the hospital for all necessary medical attention.
She promised that the matter, which is under investigation by the police, would not be swept under the carpet, stressing that the suspect would be made to face the wrath of the law.
“Master Uzoma sustained serious bruises on different parts of his body as a result of alleged torture by his father.
“The victim is presently in the custody of the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs and will be taken to the hospital to receive the necessary medical attention,” Ahukwa said.
She encouraged the Abia public to report any similar case to the state government for immediate action.
Meanwhile, the Abia State Police Command has confirmed that Mr. Lambert Uzoma, the father of the child, is in its custody.
The spokesperson of the Abia Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the development in a press statement.
