Liverpool were held to a 0-0 draw by Fulham at Anfield on Saturday, as the visitors picked up their first Premier League point of the season.
Liverpool struggled to create clear chances throughout the match despite having several attacking players on the pitch. Fulham, meanwhile, defended well and frustrated the hosts for most of the game.
Fulham had an early opportunity to take the lead when Alexander Isak fired narrowly wide from a tight angle.
The visitors came close again after a defensive mistake left Gonzalo Garcia with an opportunity, but his effort was cleared off the line by Jeremy Jacquet.
Liverpool also had chances in the first half. Victor Munoz almost opened the scoring with a flick from a corner, but Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno reacted quickly to keep the ball out.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola made changes after the break as he introduced Milos Kerkez in an attempt to add more attacking threat from the left. However, Fulham remained difficult to break down.
The second half produced very few clear chances, with Liverpool increasingly relying on shots from outside the box.
Dominik Szoboszlai tested Leno with a long range effort, while Alexis Mac Allister also saw his shot blocked.
Liverpool came closest to scoring in stoppage time when Szoboszlai’s corner found Isak, but the striker could not make proper contact with his header.
There was another late opportunity when Jeremie Frimpong sent a cross towards teenage forward Rio Ngumoha, but the youngster fired over the bar.
Fulham also pushed for a late winner, with Kevin shooting wide and Josh King forcing a save from Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.
The result means Liverpool remain unbeaten after four league matches, but they have now drawn three of those games. They currently sit sixth in the Premier League table.
Fulham’s point lifts them out of the relegation zone for the moment and gives them their first point of the campaign.
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson admitted after the match that his side did not perform well.
“It was a poor performance. Collectively, we didn’t play well,” Alisson said.
He added that Liverpool needed to show the right mentality despite their busy schedule.
Both teams will return to action in the Carabao Cup next week, with Liverpool hosting Tottenham while Fulham travel to face West Ham.
