The naira continued its positive run against the US dollar at the official foreign exchange market ending the week with another gain.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed that the naira appreciated to N1,326.52 per dollar on Friday, compared with N1,328.22 recorded on Thursday.
This means the naira gained N1.70 against the dollar within one day at the official foreign exchange market.
However, the local currency remained unchanged at the parallel market, where the dollar was exchanged at N1,390 on Friday. This was the same rate recorded on Thursday.
The latest gain continues a recent trend in which the naira has recorded more gains than losses at the official foreign exchange market.
The currency has also remained relatively stable at the parallel market in recent days.
The improvement in the naira’s performance comes as Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves continue to rise.
According to data from the apex bank, the country’s foreign reserves increased to $54.41 billion as of September 10, 2026.
The rise in foreign reserves is expected to provide stronger support for the naira and improve the country’s ability to meet its foreign exchange obligations.
The latest figures indicate continued stability in the foreign exchange market as the naira closes the week on a stronger note against the dollar.
