The Delta State Police Command has intercepted a vehicle carrying military uniforms, boots, hats and cartons of suspected illicit drugs.
The operation was carried out on Friday, September 18, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cult Unit in Asaba.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Warri on Saturday.
According to Edafe, the police received information that a Sienna vehicle carrying suspected illicit drugs and military items was travelling from Onitsha towards Ondo State.
Following the information, the operatives monitored the route and intercepted a green Toyota Sienna with registration number KP 527 AAA at about 4:50am.
The vehicle was being driven by 45-year-old Isaac Urji from Abia State.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of cartons of suspected Tramadol and other suspected illicit drugs, as well as military camouflage uniforms, boots and hats.
The driver was arrested and taken into custody.
The police said investigation had started to determine where the items came from, where they were going and identify other people linked to the consignment.
Police arrest suspected cultists
In a separate operation, the police arrested two suspected cultists during an intelligence-led operation in Ika South Local Government Area.
The suspects, identified as 18-year-old Destiny Okafor and 22-year-old Sunday Bryan, were arrested on September 18 at Alisheme Community.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Sector III, Ubulu-Uku, following information about suspected kidnappers and cultists operating in the area.
The police said preliminary investigation showed that the suspects claimed to be members of the NBM Confraternity.
Items recovered from them included a locally made single-barrel gun, a battle axe, two cutlasses, mobile phones and a laptop.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigation continues.
Also, on September 15, the police arrested four suspected cultists during an operation in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area.
The operation was led by the Divisional Police Officer of Issele-Uku Division, with support from the Police Anti-Cult Unit, vigilantes, hunters and Forest Security personnel.
Two locally made pistols, one pump-action gun and six live cartridges were recovered during the operation.
The police said investigation into the cases is ongoing.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale, said the command would continue intelligence-led operations against kidnapping, cultism and the spread of illegal firearms across the state.
He also urged residents to provide credible information to the police, assuring them that such information would be treated confidentially.
