A suspected vehicle theft kingpin identified as Mosuru Issa has been arrested during a stop- and- search -operation by police operatives at Mowe axis of Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State.
A stolen wine-coloured Toyota Camry was also recovered from the suspect by the operatives who intercepted him around 7.30 am on 11 September 2026 during a security check, Ogun Police Command spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi said in a statement.
According to the statement, the three occupants in the vehicle suddenly jumped down and fled in different directions when they were stopped by the police operatives, thus raising suspicion.
But he said the operatives immediately pursued them, resulting in the arrest of Mosuru Issa of Osungboye Street, Agege, Lagos State, while the stolen vehicle was secured and recovered.
The Ogun Police Command spokesperson added that preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen on 7 September 2026 from where it was parked in Ojoo, Lagos State.
Babaseyi added that the incident underscores the importance of proactive policing, routine patrols and lawful stop-and-search operations in detecting criminal activity, recovering stolen property and preventing criminals from using Ogun’s highways as escape routes.
He added that efforts are ongoing to locate the vehicle’s owner and apprehend the fleeing accomplices while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Babaseyi also quoted Ogun commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni as commending the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism and swift response.
Ojajuni also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and sustained operations aimed at protecting lives and property and disrupting vehicle theft, highway crime and other criminal activities across the State.

It also advised vehicle owners are also advised to adopt basic security measures, including the use of tyre locks, steering locks and other appropriate anti-theft devices, particularly when vehicles are parked in public or unsecured locations.
