Presidential Race: INEC publishes final list ahead of 2027 election

INEC releases final list of presidential candidates for 2027 election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates contesting the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The list contains 18 political parties and their presidential and vice presidential candidates.

According to the list signed by Rose Oriaran Anthony, Secretary of INEC, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is presenting President Bola Tinubu as its presidential candidate, with Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is fielding former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate, with former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is presenting Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State, with Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate.

Other major candidates on the list include Labour Party’s Sunday Chibuzo Okereke, who is paired with Hajja Bintu Konto, and the Peoples Democratic Party’s Sandy Ojang Onor, who is running with Umaru Babangida.

Other presidential candidates include Rufai Adekunle Omo Aje of the Action Alliance (AA), Aliyu Abbas Bin of the Allied Democratic Party (ADP), Kabiru Yusuf of the Action Peoples Party (APP), and Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC).

Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde is listed as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), while Sunday Adenuga is representing the Boot Party (BP).

Moses Olusoji Adebisi is the candidate of the Democratic Labour Alliance (DLA), while Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori is representing the National Democratic Party (NDP).

Nkem Esther Okereke is the presidential candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), while Donald Duke is contesting under the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

Adewole Ebenezer Adebayo is the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), while Peter Ada Agada is representing the Young Progressives Party (YPP).

Daniel Daberechukwu Nwanyanwu is the presidential candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

The INEC list shows that two women are contesting for president. They are Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of the NDP and Nkem Esther Okereke of the NRM.
Four women are also listed as vice presidential candidates.

INEC said none of the 18 presidential candidates or their running mates declared any disability.

The candidates’ ages range from 35 to 80 years. Their educational qualifications also vary, ranging from First School Leaving Certificate, WAEC and NABTEB to university degrees and doctorate qualifications.

The release of the final list marks another major step towards the 2027 general elections.
