A container truck collided with a broken-down Lagos Waste Management Authority vehicle ( LAWMA) at Apakun, along the inward Iyana-Isolo axis of Lagos State.
The accident was reported by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on Thursday through a post on its official X account, accompanied by footage from the scene.
According to LASTMA, emergency personnel had arrived at the location to manage the situation, while equipment was being deployed to remove the damaged vehicles and ease the resulting traffic obstruction.
The agency stated, “We recorded an overnight accident at Apakun inward Iyana-Isolo, involving a broken-down LAWMA truck and a 20-ft containerised truck which rammed into it.
“A crane machine and high-capacity tow truck have been activated.
“The LASTMA Rescue Team is presently at the scene, and the casualty recorded has been taken to the hospital.”
Footage released by the traffic management agency showed a victim lying on the road at the crash site.
However, PUNCH Online could not independently establish the identity of the victim or determine the extent of the injuries. It was also unclear whether the victim was alive at the time the footage was recorded.
LASTMA did not disclose further details about the casualty, including the nature or severity of the injuries.
The crash once again highlights the hazards posed by heavy-duty vehicles on Lagos roads, particularly when trucks become stranded on major traffic corridors.
A broken-down truck can obstruct traffic lanes and expose other motorists to the danger of secondary collisions, especially on busy routes.
Traffic authorities have consistently advised truck operators and other motorists to take necessary precautions when vehicles develop faults, including adequately warning approaching motorists and promptly moving broken-down vehicles away from active carriageways.
